Querying Exploration Activity - Performing Compound Searches
This example shows how to perform a compound search utilizing multiple records. Multiple record searches enable you to perform complex searches that would otherwise be impossible:

  • Search across meridians
  • Search across two or more non-continuous areas, or across a non-rectangular area
  • Search for multiple operators, plays, fields or producing zones

Question
What exploration activity has taken place in the southeastern quarter of Block 94-H (sixteenths 1, 2, 7 and 8) in northeastern British Columbia?

Step 1 - Specify the Initial Search Parameters
From the search screen, in the General Information search box, select Exploration under General Well Class.

In the Well Location Search box, enter the following:

Note that one cannot enter 1...8 because that would also pick up sixteenths 3,4,5 and 6. Sixteenths 7 and 8 must be queried using a second search record.

Step 2 - Specify the Remaining Search Parameters
To create a second search record, check the duplicate box located above the search screen.

This will create a second record containing all input from the first record. You can verify that you have indeed created a second record by looking at the record book icon located at the top left side of the search screen. It should now show two records. At any time you can toggle between records by clicking on the top "page" to move backward and the "bottom" page to move forward.

You may now edit the second record by changing 1...2 to 7...8. All other search parameters are the same. The modified well location search will display as follows. (The General Information tab will remain the same.)

Step 3 - Execute the Search
To perform the search, check the execute box located above the search screen. The EDGE will execute a search for both records, thereby encompassing 94-H-1, 2, 7 and 8.

When the execution is complete, the number of records found will appear in the Records Found box. (Please note: The number of records found will vary depending on which EDGE release you are using.)

Step 4 - Analyze the Search Results
Select (click on) the Instant Report, Play Types, Producing Zones, Operators or Trends tab. Analyze the lists and create graphs to investigate the area using the concepts learned in previous examples.
